Praying when the enemy attacks

Have you ever been on the verge of something great — a breakthrough, a long-awaited opportunity, or even just a moment of peace — when suddenly, everything seems to fall apart? It feels like life is throwing curveball after curveball, leaving you wondering, Why now? This isn’t just coincidence. Joel Osteen puts it powerfully: “The enemy always fights you the hardest when he knows God has something great in store for you.”

He Can’t Stop God, But He’ll Try to Stop You

The enemy knows he can’t stop God from blessing you. He doesn’t have that power. But what he can do is try to disrupt your focus, plant seeds of doubt, and make you feel so discouraged that you give up before the blessing arrives. It’s a tactic he’s used time and time again because it works — if we let it.

Why It Gets Tough Right Before/After

Think about it like this: when you’re closest to receiving something from God, that’s when the enemy feels most threatened. He sees your faith growing, your trust deepening, and your heart opening to receive what God has prepared for you. His goal is to create enough noise, stress, or distraction that you lose sight of what’s coming. He wants to make you question whether you deserve it, whether you’re ready for it, or whether it was ever meant for you in the first place.

Imagine you’ve been working hard for a promotion. You’ve prayed, stayed patient, and done everything you could to prepare. Just as the opportunity is within reach, a coworker begins to criticize you, or an unexpected setback occurs. That’s not random — it’s the enemy trying to shake your confidence and steal your joy before you even experience the blessing.

Or maybe you’ve been praying for a deeper connection in your relationships. Things start improving, and you feel hopeful, but then an argument arises out of nowhere. Suddenly, you’re questioning whether it’s worth it or if you’ll ever see lasting change. These moments of conflict and doubt aren’t accidental — they’re meant to derail you.

God’s Promise is Bigger Than the Enemy’s Plan

But here’s the good news: God is bigger than any attack the enemy can throw your way. While the enemy tries to make you stumble, God uses these moments to strengthen your faith. Isaiah 54:17 reminds us, “No weapon that is used against you will defeat you.” These attacks may be frustrating, but they’re temporary. When you stay rooted in God’s promises, you’ll come out stronger, ready to step into the blessing He’s been preparing for you all along.

Don’t Let the Enemy Steal Your Joy

So when life feels hardest, remember this: the closer you are to your blessing, the harder the enemy will fight. But that’s also a sign that something incredible is just around the corner. Don’t give up. Keep your eyes on God, trust His timing, and know that He will carry you through.

Daily Prayer

Dear Lord, thank You for being my protector and guide. When the enemy tries to steal my joy and peace, help me to stand firm in Your truth. I rebuke the enemy’s attacks in Jesus’ name, declaring that he has no power over my life. Fill me with Your peace and strength, Lord, and remind me that I am a child of God, safe in Your hands. Amen.
